General FAQ

What is Neptune?

Neptune is a creator-driven social platform designed for original, weird, and wonderful communities. We focus on giving you control of your experience and the freedom to express your niche.

Neptune has a minimum age requirement of 17. Anyone younger is not permitted to use the app at this time due to our content policies.

Neptune is invite-only for now. You’ll need a single-use Pass Key sent directly to you to unlock your account.

There are several strategic factors that determine how fast we’re rolling out to new users every day. That is based heavily on cost, when an update drops, or if we’re just in the mood to build some hype.

We understand that there’s a large interest from many countries for Neptune; however, we’re pacing out U.S. rollout to be purposely thoughtful of cost, resources, and ensuring that we’re ready for the regulations of other countries before we make decisions to head international.

Content FAQ

What is Neptune's stance on free speech?

We welcome creators from all areas of the internet to do what they love and express themselves constructively to other users. We have a hard line on hateful content, violence, and anything that can get our app removed from the app store or in trouble with any country we operate in.

Our freedom of expression policies welcome different opinions, and free thinkers. Healthy debate about topics help push through the positive change to the world. You’re welcome to believe things you see posted on Neptune, but it’s important to do research from trusted sources to verify that they’re valid. Some areas that are monitored for misinformation:

  • Elections – specifically false statements regarding election fraud, tampering of election results, and false statements regarding the election process.

  • Health – including health practices, mental health, vaccine misinformation, and any content made to sow distrust in the medical community or public health systems.

  • Politics – we don’t police politics, but we may ban users for posting hateful content aimed to violently attack one political group or person if it breaks any of our Community Guidelines.

We’re currently a video-only platform, but we have plans to expand with other media forms soon, including photos!

Users are limited to 3 hashtags per post. This allows for a more granular search that is very focused on your target audience. Choosing the right three hashtags to get to your people may take a few posts, keep switching it up until you find what works for you!

Neptune doesn’t have a For You Page (FYP). The feed we have is built by your preferences. Since you’re limited to 3 hashtags per post, you’ll need to use them to target your specific audience with keywords that they’ll be looking for in their own algorithms.

Additional FAQ

Why is Neptune not just open for everyone?

Every user we bring in will post or view videos, and increase our monthly operating costs. We’re doing this slow and strategic to ensure that our app can stick around and not go into the red before we get to the finish line.

Right now, we’re supported through key purchases. Users who want into the app now can buy a key for $8 USD to help fund app development.
